Two Days and nights on Skomer

Two Days and Nights on Skomer

The photographs presented in this gallery were taken on Skomer, an island off the coast of Pembrokeshire in the Southwest of Wales which is a national nature reserve, a Site of Special Scientific Interest and a Special Protection Area surrounded by a marine nature reserve and managed by the Wildlife Trust of South and West Wales. Lyn and I spent two days and nights on Skomer over the weekend of 19th and 20th September 2015, having signed up for a Bird Watching activity weekend organised by the Wildlife Trust of South and West Wales.

The activity weekend was led by Dave Astins, a guide who exceeded all expectations and who quite simply MUST be the most knowledgeable, personable and enthusiastic birder in Pembrokeshire at least. Without any doubt at all, Dave proved to be simply the best guide anybody could wish for as he was able to cater for the needs of the total newbie, (me) as well as the far more accomplished birders in the group of 8 who spent the weekend together, lodging at the self catering hostel on the island. (The event was actually scheduled for three days and nights but as bad weather was forecast on the day we were due to leave the island, our trip was cut short and we left at noon on the third day).
